FRAUD IN ST. LOUIS.
CROOKEDNESS IN NATURALIZATION IS ALLEGED. • —— Policeman and Saloonkeeper Arrested On Charge of Aiding Aliena to Bes come Citizen* Combination of Karin«r« Formed at Lincoln, Neb. Officer Ivnplan and Nathan Levin, proprietor of a saloon, were arrested in St. Louis on an indictment returned by the federal grand jury charging them with fraudulently obtaining for aliens certificates of citizenship, commonly known as naturalization papers. The indictment charges that Oct. 1 last Kaplan and Levin, in company with Bernhard Feldmann, an alien, visited the SL Louis Court of Appeals and acted as prompters to Feldmann, who made application for naturalization papers. The defendants, it is charged, instructed Feldmann to make oath to a statement ’lmt he had resided in the United States for three years previous to the date of his attaining his majority. On the day following the trio again appeared and Feldma.ni, by swearing to his statements of the previous day, obtained the documents entitling him to vote. United States District Attorney Dyer stated that by the evidence secured he would be able to prove that hundreds of aliens had obtained naturalization papers through fraud previous to the election last November.
DETECTIVE 18 SHOT DEAD. It la fapposed Slayers Are Responsible for Recent Robbery. Two men, who are supposed to have robbed the bank at Union, Mo., during the recent holidays,, were located several miles west of there in a cabin by a Pinkerton detective. C. J. Schumacher. The detective, disguised as a hunter, ciilled at a house and Jound two men heavily armed. He organized a posse and returned to attack the house. He was shot dead, and the posse fled. Later the posse obtained re-enforcements nnd returned to seek the supposed robbers. In a couutry by-rdad William Meyersieck nnd C. F. Nieheiser, who composed one- of the posses, met two men on horseback. The horseback riders ordered the men to stop, nnd upon their refusal drew their revolvers. Meyersieck nnd Nieheiser opened fire and emptied their revolvers. It was nearly dark, nnd they could not lire to the best advantage. One shot at least struck its mark, for one of the suspects reeled and fell from his saddle. The other man quickly climbed down nnd helped his companion back on his horse nnd they rode away. FARMERS FORM A COMBINATION. Co-operative Grain an I Live Stock Association Organized at Lincoln. The meeting at Lincoln of Nebraska and Kansas farmers for the purpose of forming a co-operative grain and live stock association concluded the other evening. A temporary organization was effected nnd adjournment taken tfl.Jfeh. 11, at which time the permanent organization of the association will be completed. Bach county in Nebraska is to have a single delegate therein. The fear ture of this session was an address byformer Gov. Savage, in which he commended trusts and urged the farmers to organize one of their own.

It says action was foreed, and disavows nny intention of oppressing Venezuela. Great Britain lias sent a protest to Berlin against further use of force in maintaining blockade*. Army Officer la Cleared. Lieut. H. Clay Evans, Jr., lias received advices from the War Department that he was released from arrest and was acquitted of the charge on which he was court-martialed. This is a decided victory for the young lieutenant, who is the eon of the consul general to London. Zorn Jory Unable to Airree. The jury in the case of Dr. Louis Zorn, a Kansas City dentist, charged with the murder of Albert Sechrisf, reported that it was unable to agree. Zorn was released ,ou bail peudiug another trial. * . Colorado Re-Elects Teller. Senator Teller has been re-elected by Colorado legislators in joint session, after securing a quorum by bringing in nn absentee from a sick bed in an ambulance. Sign Alaskan Koundury Treaty. Secretary of State Hay and Sir Michael Herbert. British ambassador, have signed a treaty providing for a speedy settlement of the dispute over the Alaskan boundary. Gives Dormitory to Yale. Announcement has been made at Yale that Frederick Vanderbilt has added $150,000 to his $500,000 gift to the Sheffield scientific school at Yale in order to build a second dormitory for the school. Prisoner Commits Suicide. Bert dje Share, alias Sweet, held on two charges of forgery, committed suicide in the county jail at Butte, Mont. He had taken heavy doses of strychnine, tuorphine and cocaine. Robbers Blow Bank Safe. At Somerset, Ohio, robbers forced nn entrance into the city bank, blew the safe, and gut Swajr with SO,OOO.
