A Pointed Discussion.
Young Bruce Hardy, son of Sheriff Hardy, and Editor Babcock, of the Jasper County Democrat, got into a very animated discusion about one o’clock last Saturday. It occurred on the side walk close to the Democrat office, and was in regard to an article in last week’s Democrat, in regard to the poor matter, in which article serious reflections were thrown on Mr. Hardy’s management of the farm, when he was superintendent. The argument finally became so very animated that one of Bruce’s gestures landed on the editor’s news chasing organ, otherwise his nose. And another on his forehead. The nose blow caused the editor to get out an issue in red. It also increased the organ quite materially in s'ze, if not in adornment. On the editor’s part, his motions, though equally animated, failed to land and Bruce bore away no visible marks of the controversy. An affidavit for assault and battery was fifth against young Hardy, and he plead guilty before Squire Troxell, and was fined fl and costs, which was paid.
