Result of Repealing Bounties.

A press dispatch from LaPorte says: “A big wolf hunt, which will occupy all of Christmas week, is to occur in this county, beginning next Monday. Wolves have become very daring in the south part of the county, the animals taking refuge in the Kankakee .marsh. Several packs have their lairs in this region, and have made numerous attacks on the live stock of the farmers.” This increasing prevalence and destructiveness of wolves in. the Kankakee river region is only what was to have been expected. When wolves were approaching extermination in that region the Commissioners of Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties were idiots enough to repeal their wolf bounties, and thus gave the wolves a chance to increase and become numerous again. The worst feature of such a penny wise and pound foolish policy is that it not only re-stocks those counties with wolves but it also affords a continual source of supply to neighboring counties where the commissioners have sense enough to pay bounties.
