Inheriting a considerable fortune from her husband she was induced by Woodruff to establish a sanitarium in California with her means. That she might be associated with him without inviting criticism, the legal process of adoption was secretly resorted to. Mrs. Slick is 50 and Woodruff 40, and the strange alliance has created a sensation in northern Indiana, where Judge Slick was so long prominent. Woodruff and Mrs. Slick are now in California.
