Town Owns Milroy Park
At last the legal title to the old Milroy homestead in Bensselaer rests in the city, the deeds having been put on record this week. The property is a triangular lot of land, lying direotly west of the Washington street bridge, It is surrounded by streets on all sides namely Washington, street, McCoy Avenue and Milroy street. Its aotual dimensions are almost exactly the equivalent of three ordinary Bensselaer lots, of 50 by 150 feet. The prioepaid is 11900 of which amount SI,OOO was raised by popnlar subscription, through the effprts of the Ladies Literary Club The city is- to pay the other S9OO, but that muoh is stilf owed for* The SI,OOO was paid in cash. The property is admirably situated for a small park, and would also be au ideal plaoe for a memorial hall, or some simi-
lar publio building. It has quite a number of fine trees, but otherwise uo improvements that add "any thing to its selling value It was for many years, previous to the civil war, the property qf Major Gen. Robert H. Milroy. and the old house in which he lived still stands, though in a dilapidated ooudition, though still rented and inhabitable. In what way the property will finally be utilized is still to be determined. But even just to put nut more trees and keep it simply as a public park it will be well worth all its cost. That it will, eventually, and perhaps in a few years, be made the site of some memoriej to Gen. Milroy, scarcely admits of a doubt
