Stone Road Troubles in Newton,

Calfax township, Newton county voted for a system of stone roads at the reoent eleotiou and the contract was to have been let last Tuesday, but not a single bid was reoeived. It is supposed the estimates were made too low. Newton oounty has had any amount of trouble with its stone roaa building. The worst trouble, however, was in Jefferson township where 30 miles of road were let to Wm. Heffron for $45,412, or about $15,000 under the estimate. He lost 7 or 8 thousand dollars and then went broke. His bondsmen, the Fidelity Guarantee Company is finishing the contact but will be a long time doing it and will lose a large sum on the job.
