Increased Rural Route Service.

The Poetoffice Department wants an appropriation of $12,655,800 for rural mail delivery for the fiscal year beginning next July. If it gets it, Indiana will be practically covered by rural free delivery before the next presidential election- Illinois, lowa and Ohio are the only states that now lead Indiana in the number of rural routes in operation. Nine hundred and sixteen routes are now operated in the state and 456 petitions for routes are pending. Seventy-seven applications have been favorably reported and these routes will be established before the end of the calendar year.
