The City Council.

All members were present and Mayor presiding. J. 0. Carmichael was given a permit to erect a harness shop building on J. W. Horton’s lot, on Cullen street, north of McFarland’s store. A petition was presented for an arc light .over College Avenue bridge. Referred to committee. * The oity attorney reported against the legal right of W. H. Eger and others, ae not residing on the street, to remonstrate Lgainst a new oement walk on Plum street. Ellis Walton offered to sell to the oity for SIOO, a strip two feet wide end 45 feet long, off the rear of his lot just north of the water works, where the foundations of the water tower encroach a little on his lot. The offer was declined, but the city attorney was direoted to have put in writing a verbal to arbitrate, made by Mr. Walton to Councilman Parks. At the rate Uncle Ellis offered this strip, his 50 foot residence lot would be worth about $7,500 for the bare lot. An ordinance was introduced and passed under supension of the the, rules, regulating storage of imflammable and explosive substances, inside the city limits. It is forbidden under penalty, to store or keep for sale, more than 5 barrels of ooal oil, 2 barrels of gasoline or 25 pounds of gnn powder, within 100 feet of any building. But if the same is kept in iron or steel tanks, the distance need not exceed 75 feet. The ordinance takes effeot Dec. Ist next.
