Deaths in September.
Typhoid fever caused 232 deaths in Indiana in September, reports to the State Board of Health show. In Augnst the number was 167. Typhoid stood third as to mortality. Diarrheal diseases were first with 322 deaths, and consumption was second, with 282 deaths. There were 2,812 deaths in In* diana in September—a rate of 13.6. In August there were 3,158 deaths—a rate of 14.8. Of the September deaths 537 were of children under one year of age and 613 were of persons over sixty-five. There was a rise in the death rate due to diptheria from 78 3 in August to 112.7 in September per 100,000 population. There was also a slight increase in the scarlet fever rate.
