It Wasn’t a Basket Meeting.
judging from the great number of people, with well filled, baskets in their hands who went north on the Monon Sunday there might have been a big basket-meetingiq progress up there sora <p|a?el The fact, however that many of these people also carried suspicious looking poles in their hands was a severe jolt to the basket meeting theory. A more severe jolt still Was given it in the evening when those same people came back with many of those same baskets fuller of fish, than in the morning they had been of dinner. Some 90 tickets for the Kankakee river were sold here Sunday. These, with children, who 'went without tickets, and still others who went Saturday evening or earlier, probably made at least 150 Rensselaer people on the river that day. There were also many from other towns, especially Monticello. Nearly all came home on the evening milk train, which wks crowded to the limit of standing room. Some very large strings of fish were caught by those who were able to get bo»ts. Those who could not and had to fish with the crowd at the bridges, Tor the most part caught very few. There were 120 Sunday excursion tickets in all sold here Sunday.
