Will Knock Out Saloons.
A dispatch to the Inter-Ocean, dated Binghamton, N. Y., Aug. 31, says: "An organization to be known as the Compressed Spirits Com* pany, with, a capital stock of 11,000,000, is being formed here. I. Z. Protsman, a prominent hotel proprietor, of Cincinnati is president. and the stockholders include financiers in New York and Baltimore. The factory will turn out whisky and wine manufactured into compressed tablets, making it possible for a person to carry a good-sized drunk in his vest pocket. The discovery was made by Charles Obendaugh, of this city, and the plan has been thoroughly tested. It will revolutionize the manufacture and sale of spirits an<£ will necessitate changes in the revenue law to cover the manufacture of whisky tablets. Work on the plant will begin at once and drinks in compressed form will be on the market before Christmas.” One concern like that dnll raise more disturbance in the world than all the distilleries and breweries, and will license people to become intoxicated wherever and whenever they please, and will certainly knock out the moonshiner whisky makers. If it turns out according to the program a worse curse could not befall- the country. ’
