Or. Lovett s Opinion. . t That always Iqyal Republican, good citizen and man of the soundest judgement, Dr. J. A. Lovett, of Goodland, has an article in the Herald commending the course of that paper in supporting C. W. Hanley, the regular Republican nominee, for judge. Following are extracts from the doctor’s article. I have not’had sufficient opportunity to judge of the justice of methods that were adopted to secure these nominations. It is very evident, however, that Jasper county has secured her favorite for this important position—and no one can assail his character or standing as a citizen or lawyer, or public officer. Observations and inquiry convince me, also, that the well-advertised stories throughout Newton county of Mr. Hanley’s incompetency are gratuitous and without foundation. That phase of the campaign may as well be abandoned.
It is scarcely worth while at this time to go to the rescue of the candidate for judge on the above charges. A recent declaration of a distinguished attorney, outside this district, one who knows all the parties well and intimately, and whose judgement would be fair and impartial, recently declared that “the z bar of this dis tract can furnish no more competent person for the office of judge than Mr. Hanley.” And it may be added that the Republican voters fully understand that it is no disparagement to any attorney in this judicial circuit to say that he is easily the equal of any applicant for that high office. Let us be fair and elect our ticket with the usual majorities-
