The Foresters’ Excursion and Picnic.
The Catholic Foresters’ Excursion here from Chicago Sunday, and picnic at St. Josephs’ College, was. a great success. The special train from Chicago, consisting of ten coaches and 1 a baggage car, arrived about 10 a. m. It Was met at the depot by Father B. Boebner, rector of the college; and the college band- After attending special low mass at St. Augustine’s church, the compete) marched to the college, where grounds and building were thrown open to their use. There were 600 persons on the special train, 400 from Chicago and 200 from Hammond, Dyer. St. Johns and other Indiana points There were also many present from other towns, such as Kentland, Earl Park, Remington etc. Also 75 came from Lafayette on the milk train. All told, there were from 1,200 to 1,500 persons present. There was quite an extended program at the college. Father Boebner gave an address of welcome, and others gave addresses as follows. Theodore B. Theile, of Chicago, high secretary of the order, and the next highest officer in the order. J.’F. Scanlan, dept, assistant U. S. treasurer, of Chicago, apd the first High Chief, of the order. Tbos. J. Johnson, of Chicago, Ist chief attorney of the order. Tbos. J. McNerny, of Chicago, chief ranger of Illinois. 2 ' F. F. Schmidtt, of Chicago, busineqs manager of the high court. All the ntate officers of the Illinois Foresters were present. J. Mearen was present with his nitiating team and conferred the exalted degree on 8 candidates. Meals weresqrved in the college refectory, the tables accomodating 200 persons at a time. The financial results of the day will be satisfactory to its beneficiaries, namely the local court of Foresters and the new parochial school. The exact net proceeds can not now be determined, but will be between S3OO and S4OO.
