Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 35, Number 1, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 2 September 1902 — Pickerel Still Plenty. [ARTICLE]
Pickerel Still Plenty.
Fishing on the Kankakee still continues good, and large numbers from here continue to take advantage of it; and yearly all who go come back with good strings of from 10 to 25 pickerel. Some dog-fish are caught, but these are generally thrown away, although some people say that dogfish baked °tjntil cooked clear-through are the beet fish that swims. The presence of such vast numbers of pickerel in the Kankakee now, and all about the same size, 12 to 16 inches long is a good deal of a puzaU. But fish, like birds, will go where there is plenty of food, and just now the vast numbers of carp minnows in the river makes good picking for the pickerel, and very likely-that is what brings them wr * rtrf Ic - u Mississippi.
