Improvements At the Makeever House.
A representative of the Republican was surprised on being shown through the Makeever bouse at the number and extensiveness of the improvements that have been made in that hotel since W. G. Slagle, who is a thoroughly up-to-date landlord, assumed control. The office has been newly frescoed and new chairs have been put in in place of the old ones, the parlor and dining rooms are newly papered and the floor of the dining room covered with costly linoleum. There is a modern toilet room on the first and second floors, and a bath room on the seond floor. In the rooms great improvements ( have been made, the floors- have ( been newly carpeted, in some of the rooms with brussela carpet. The cumbersome wooden bedsteads have been replaced by neat little iron ones, some white and some blue, new washbowls and pitchers are to be found in every room and in some of the rooms new dressers and chairs are to be found. All the rooms have been newly paper ed.
Mr, Slagle is a cheerful and obliging young landlord, and knows how to manage a hotel better than most landlords of twice his age. During the Carnival week over 600 people registered at the Makeever house, all of the rooms were filled and cots were in every hall and even out on the veranda. Probably Joe the busman proved a great drawing card for the hotel during Carnival week by reason of his attractive tri colored suit of red, yellow and blue, and his gaily decorated bus and shining new harness.
