Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 97, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 5 August 1902 — Three Tons of Bunco Butter. [ARTICLE]
Three Tons of Bunco Butter.
Secretary Hnrty, of the State Board of Health, says that three tons out of the 80 tons of butter sold in Indiana'is an adulteration, supplied by one Chicago firm.lt is, he says, composed of starch, gelatine, neutral fat and milk.. He says that it is harmless, but is a big swindle, as it costs but four cents a pound, while the poorest batter costs 15 cents a pound. The‘state board can do nothing to stop' the practice, Dr. Hurty says, as it has no laboratory and no money to pay for analysis. -A- T A
