A Hot One From Hinds.
Our former resident, Sherman A. Havens is still m the wheat business pretty large in Shelby county. He raised 138 acres this year, and gpt 3250 bushels, which is about 23j bushels to the acre; which is a good yield for wheat, Down there in his neighborhood they pay a thresher 8 cents per bushel and he does the whole jot) and furnish es everything. The thresher has -15 jobs in that run, which will average ' 2,500 bushels of wheat in each job. Oats are good and corn the best for years. Sherman’s uncle, Rev. Peter Hinds, is how making another of his numerous moves. The last earthly paradise he got into, and got soured on, was Tullahoma, Tennessee. A letter he wrote to Sherman, June 19, describing that country is published herewith. In describing some of the pests of that region Rev. Peter borders close on profanity, but under the circumstances even a preacher Would be justified in using a few modest cross words. The Shelbyville mentioned in Mr. Hinds’ letter is in Coffee do., Tennessee, and is not the Shelbyville in this state, where Sherman lives, and to which Rev. Peter is moving back, having got all of scratching after those “d-m pests” he wants for some time. Following is the letter spoken of. Bro. Hinds is somewhat erratic in bis spelling, especially when constant scratching with bis nails gets him out of practice with scratching with his pen; but much of the force and humor of the letter would be lost if the spelling and pronounoiation of the letter were changed, so we give it verbatim:
