BOY LOST IN CHICAGO.
A very distressing incident of the excursion to Chicago, Sunday, was the losing in the <jity, by Mrs. J. P. Sherman, of Rensselaer, of her ten ye&r old son, Roger. She and her two children, a boy and a girl, went to the city on the excursion, and about two o’clock went to the Morrrison hotel, on Madison street, for dinner. After dinner the boy wanted to go to a , fruit stand, near-by on the street, ,to buy some fruit. This his mother permitted him to do. He went about 2.30 p. m., and did not return. After his mother had waited until about 5 o’clock, she reported the boy’s disappearance to the police. They at once started the search for the boy, but had got no track of him when Mrs. Sherman left to return home. The police stated that as soon as they found the boy or got any track of him, they would communicate with his mother. It was at first thought that the boy’s father, who is living in Chicago, had seen the boy and had taken possession of him. A policeman went to Mr. Sherman’s place, however, and he stated he had not seen the boy, nor heard before that be was in the city. Mrs. Sherman believes Mr. Sherman’s statements, in the matter. And in fact it would be much more
probable that the little fellow got interested in something in the street, jand before he knew it had wandered away and become bewildered. Roger is a bright, manly little fellow and we are confident will be recovered all right. Monday morning, the Associated Press of Chicago sent for the boy’s picture, which was forwarded on the next train, and therefore if he is not sooner located, his portrait will probably appear in the city papers of this Tuesday morning. Mrs. Sherman is naturally very greatly distressed at the boy’s disappearance, but it is really very improbable that any serious harm has befallen him, and his early discovery and return to his home may be expected with a good deal of confidence.
