A CASE OF BURGLARY.
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. worth had an experience with a burglar Thursday night, or rather about 2:30 a. m, Friday morning, at their residence on McCoy avenue. Mrs. Hollingsworth awoke at that time and started through another room to see after her little daughter, and almost ran into a strange man in the room. He jumped back into a closet and she nailed to the little girl, and returned to awake Mr. Hollingsworth, In the mean time however, calling to the burglar to tell to him find what he wanted and get out, but to be careful and not awake the babj. i She then awakened Mr. Hollingsworth and informed him that there was a burglar in the house. By that time the intruder had passed into the hall and stopped directly undera burning electric light. As Mr. Hollingsworth opened the door the burglar heard him and reached down to his hip, where the outlines of a big gun were plainly visible. Mr. Hollingsworth was unarmed, but thought bluffing the better part of valor just then, and he hollered at the fellow and told him to get out. He went down the stairs in about two jumps, and then stopped and open negotiations. Said be wanted money and wanted it awful bad. Mr. Hollingsworth said he bad none with him and to “git” if he knew when he was well off. Just then Mrs. Hollingsworth said she had some change in her pocket and for Mr. H. to give it to the fellow if he 6 was so bad off. She got the purse and Mr. H. threw it down stairs, and the thief grabbed it, and lit out. Mr. H went down stairs at once, but when he got to the door the thief was out in the road, leaving on a dead run. He had his face muffled but Mr. Hollingsworth, who had a good view of him, is sure he was a stranger here. There was only $3 or f 4 in the purse thet was thrown to him. Mrs Hollingsworth was as cool during the whole, incident as though the intrusion of the burglar was only the appearance of an expected guest. He made his entrance through a screen door.
