Kokomo Has Had Enough.
Judging from the tenor of the dispatohes from Kokomo to the Indianapolis papers their reoent first experience in street oarnivals has been far from satisfactory. The following is a portion of the diepatoh to the news. Kokomo, Ind., June 21, —Kokomo business men are declaring that the oity will never have an other carnival, or street fair, The Pythian carnival has been profitable to the Uniform Rank, ap about $3,500 will be cleared, but a number of merchants say it has been ruinous to the business interests of the oity.
They say that the advertising given their business does not nearly compensate for their donation the oarnival and the loss of money. They say that the only people who realize from the oarnival are the restaurant proprietors and saloon keepers. These statements are made in the face of the fact that the carnival, which closed today, has been the most successful event of its kind held in the gas belt this year. A good many citizens are bitterly opposed to any more carnivals on aooount of the imxoral char acter of many of the shows. The police arrested three professional pickpockets and twentyfour suspeots this week. The losses from the o.ooks have b en large, and the police believe that an organized gang has been working here.
