Pays to Build Good Public Buildings.

Goodland proposes to lay plans before the county commissioners for a S4O OQO court house. Rensselaer plans called for a $60,000 court house and the total when finished was just $128,000. Newton county wants a good oourt house, but no extremes. To place a heavy tax to gratify vanity, is not what the people want.—Brook Reporter, The Reporter is in error. At the very start our commissioners figured that a courthouse to cost about $125,000 would be none too good for Jasper county, and plans were drawn t n that baaist. By the time it was done, it and the heating plant building, grounds etc had cost upwards of $150,000. But probably there is no expensive public building in Indiana more nearly worth its oost than our oourt house. Moreover, though quite a good many people "kicked” when it was being built, we think it would be very difficult to find anyone now who would want the old building buck, nor who now wishes we had built a less excellent, beautiful, convenient and enduring court house. It does not pay to go in on the cheaps when permanent public buildings are to be erected.
