A Great State For Pensions.
Through the United Btates pension office at Indianapolis, old soldiers of Indiana reoeive checks which aggregate $2,500,000. Pension Agent Marsh makes quarterly payments ranging from $216 down to $24, the larger sum going to those who are totally disabled and who are pensioned at $72 per month, and the smaller sum to those who bear a minor injury, and are pensioned at $8 per month, With the exception of two cities more pension mopey is distributed through the Indianapolis offioe than any in the country. The annual roll there amounts to about $10,000,000. Topeka, Kansas, stands at the jhead with a yearly distribution throughout the Sunflower state of about $14,000,000 The office at Columbus, Ohio, oomes second on the list. Kansas has more pensioners than any other state in the Union. The reason given is that thousands of veterans removed there from this and other states soon after the war. There are many old officers on the pension roll in Indiana. Colonels get S3O per month; majors, $25; captains; $29; lieutenants, sl7, The usual amount drawn by soldiers of the civil war is $8 per month.
