About 25,000 immigrants arrived In New York last week, making a total of over 85,000 arrivals for the month. This breaks all records, as the greatest number of Immigrants arriving during any previous mouth was in May, 1893, when 73,000 immigrants arrived. About 1 per cent of tbe immigrants are deported, most of the deportations being based on tbo likelihood of tbe immigrants becoming public charges. The prohibition against tbe entrance of persons with contagions or incurable diseases operates to prevent many others from becoming citizens.
