Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 77, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 27 May 1902 — Memorial Day Proclamation. [ARTICLE]
Memorial Day Proclamation.
. The proclamation for the observance of May 30th as Memorial Day has been issued by the Governor. He requests that all persons abstain from the usual avocations, that flags be displayed in all appropriate places, and that on that day the debt of gratitude owed to the nation’s defenders be acknowledged in every manner possible. The Governor suggests that while Memorial Day be observed in honor of the soldiers of the civil war, it might be well at the same time to bear in mind the obligation of the country to soldiers of other wars. Memorial Day, May 30, is a legal holiday in Indiana, made so by legislative action.
