Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 77, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 27 May 1902 — Prof. Kirsch is Dead. [ARTICLE]
Prof. Kirsch is Dead.
The much belated intelligence has been received of the death of Philip Hi Kirsch, who was superintendent of the Rensselaer schools for several years, about 18 to 20 years ago. He was afterwards state fish commissioner for several years, and it is said to have been due to his well-meant but, in tiat case, misguided efforts that our lakes and streams were stocked with the nearly worthless German carp. When or where Mr. Kirsch died, we were unable to learn, but understand it was about a year ago. His widow, who showed great proficiency as an elocutionist, while here, is some place in the west, and engaged in elocution as a vocation.
