Remi66^a®MP3^^, <: i3k“Ar“R’.' has already perfected an appeal in due form, to the G. A. R. commander in chief, from the action of Department Commander Garrigus, in revoking the charter of the post. This appeal wifi have the effect of staying the action of Garrigus, and until the appeal is heard and determined the post will continue to do business at the old stand, as before.

Rensselaer was even more high-, ly honored than previously reported at the state convention of the Ladies of the G. A, R. at Indianapolis, this week. For not only did the highest state office in the order come here, that of State President, namely to Mrs. Carrie Porter, but the third highest also, that of State Secretary, Mrs. Hettie Reynolds, of our city having been chosen for that position. The Logansport Republicans are working hard to secure the nomination of Fed Landis, for Congress. The Landis,boys are gifted lads, clear through, but Fred, the youngest of the family, is the very flower of the flock. He has a head-piece on him like the statue of a young Greek god. Senator Beveridge will have to look to his laurels as Indiana’s, no, America’s, greatest orator-statesman, when Fred Landis breaks into congress Crown Point Register: The latest news in regard to the Gifford railroad is to the effect that its line will probably be' located midway between Cedar Lake and Crown Point. Mr. Gifford has declared that' unless Crown Point makes a united effort at once he will locate the line without regard to any other consideration than that of securing the most economical grade. A spur will be run to Cedar Lake where extensive ice privileges have been secured.

Miss Lida Wigmore, of Monticello, a young lady well known in Reilsselaer, has just received a $4,000 verdict, for personal injuries, against Edward Claypool, owner of a big building in Indianapolis. She was attending a school in Claypool’s building, last June, and the elevator shaft door being open she stepped into it, thinking the elevator was there. It was not, however, and she got a fall which laid her up for weeks, and from which the doctors eay she will never fully recover.

The records show that Indiana troops participated in 308 engagements in seventeen different states, the first being at ‘Philippi, W. Va, June 3,- 1861, the first battle of the war, and the last being at Palmetto Ranche. Texas, the last battle of the war. Jasper county was in these battles, literally from start, and is not to finish, at least till mightly near. In the first battle at Phillippi a Jasper county man was killed, theae being no earlier death in battle in the whole war.

Seining was resumed at Cedar Lake with good success and over 1000 pounds of carp, dog fish and buffalo fish were captured there Monday. Deputy Game Warden Newman brought home a 17 pound buffalo fish Monday evening as a sample of the work that is being done. Game Warden Earle has been present himself this week and superintended operations Those who have charge of the work feel much encouraged over their success this week and claim that the lake will be pretty well cleared of the undesirable fish before they let up—Crown Point Register.
