Startling
Once upon a time an inspector Inspected a farmer’s cows and discovered a startling state of affairs. “Your cows are diseased," said the inspector. “For when I give them a pailful each of hydrochloric acid they become feverish.” “Mon dieu!” exclaimed the farmer. “I never expected this.” “It being your first offense,” said tha Inspector, “I shall not kill yon. I shall kill the cows merely?’ Thus it chanced that when he went away the inspector left the farmer in a very grateful frame of mind. —Puck.
