A Real Son of the Revolution.

The fact that Rensselaer is the home of a real “Daughter of the Revolution” in Mrs. Dinah Evans Moore, wife of Wm. E. Moore, is known to all, and has been widely published. That we also have a veritable “Son of the Revolution” living in oar town seems known to but few, and as far as we know, has never been published. Our venerable townsman, Henry Mercer Babb, is the son of a man of the same name as himself who, when still a mere boy, served for a time in the patriot army, near the close of the Revolutionary war, He was a member of the “Hussars” in the Winchester, Virginia company. He was married in 1797, and was the father of ten ohildren. The next youngest of these, Henry Mercer Babb, Jr., was born June 2, 1813, and now, and for many years past, has been a resident of Rensselaer. He will be 89 yeaA old the 2nd of the coming Jane, and from his strength, activity and well preserved faculties, seems dewtined to eeisily round out a century of life. He is the only survivor of his parents’ 10 children.
