Back From The Philippines.
Charley Strain is here for a short visit with his cousin Jennings Wright, and other relatives, previous to going to Columbus, Ohio, where he has a sdn and other relatives- On Maroh 19th he was mustered out, at Fort Douglas, Utah, after three years servioe in Company L r lßth U. S. infantry. During years of that time he was in the Philippines. He was also in the Ist Arkansas regiment, in the Spanish war. He says he has got enough of soldiering, but has no speoial objection to conditions in the Philippines. He thinks it has the finest chimate in the world, and not by any mekns an unhealthy one. For his own part he was never sick a day. His company lost about 5 men while there by sickness and abopt as many more killed iu battle.. He was in 5 or or 0 pretty good soraps and numerous smaller skirmishes. What is being done over there in the way of educating the young Filopinos in public shools of the American kind is what Charley is especially enthusiastic about.
