Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 59, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 25 March 1902 — J. W. Leach Apponinted Postmaster at Valma. [ARTICLE]

J. W. Leach Apponinted Postmaster at Valma.

T. J. Richardson has resigned as postmaster at Valma on the ValmaPleasant Grove star ronte, and J. W. Leach, the other store-keeper there,-has been appointed in his place. Mr. Richardson has also quit storekeeping and will hereafter look after his 5 acre vineyard and fruit farm, and take life easy. He has been postmaster there ever sinoe the office was first established, if we remember rightly, or 15 years or more; and has been a most excellent and careful postmaster too. It is probable that the office itself will not long survive Mr. Riohardson’s retirement. Not because Mr. Leach will not be a worthy successor, but beoause the star routes have already cut off many of its patrons, and when the oarrier to Pleasant Grove has to supply private boxes along his line there will probably not be enough left to pay for maintaining an office at Valma.
