A False and Ungrateful Statement.

Newton county republicans are loyal to the core, and when they go into convention and get the worst of it, and which they always do, thev do not leave the convention roaring and creating disturbance, but walk up to the polls ands u p port the ticket.— Ke nll and w _ The assertion that Newton county Republicans are loyal to the core we heartily endorse. But Newton county Republicans in general have mighty little in com mon with a certain little gang of tricksters and chronic pie-hunters Kentiand'Fwho often claim to be the whole Republican party of that countyYes, Newton county Republicans are all righi, and there are no better republicans and no better men anywhere; but the assertion that they always get the worst of it in the conventions, would be amusing, if it wasn’t so infernally false and ur grateful. Did Jasper county republicans give Newton the worst of it when Peter H. Ward was nominated for Judge, iu 1884? Or when- Johnson was nominated for Representative in Ibßß;Jjyone iil 1892 andArchibald in 1896? Or when Annabel was nominated for prosecutor in 1894;Chi7um in 1896, and again in 1898 and Sink in 1900 Jasper county has not had a date for Prosecutor since 1888. Or perhaps it was when Gilman was nominated for Senator in 1890. Jasper county has not had a republican candidate for State Senator in 16 years. We would have had one two years ago, however, had not the nomination been stolen from us by that little gang aforesaid. Who was it “got the worst of it” that time? Did Newton bounty Republicans get the worst of it in 1892 when Jasper county Republicans worked loyally to try to nominate Gilman for Congress? and tried again in 1894, and succeeded when Hatch was nominated. To sum the above facts all up, Newton Republicans have had four nominations for prosecuting Attorney to Jasper county one; three for Representative to Jasper county two; one for senator to Jasper county none, and one for Judge to Jasper county two. If any man says Newton county Republicans “have got the worst of it” in their political relations with Jasper county, the truth is not in him.
