A Most Commendible Suggestion.
Wheatfield Telephone. What I am about to propose is done without the knowledge or consent of the gentleman in question, and without ascertaining his wishes in regard to the matter, but right here and now the Telephone rises to suggest the name of Abraham Halleck of DeMotte, as a candidate to succeed himself ' as commissioner of the First disj strict. Mr. Halle k has made a good and efficient officer, has conducted affairs in a praiseworthy manner and to the liking of his constituents and if he will again accept the trust he should ‘ have it without opposition. True, Bro. Babcock is opposed to him and has raw-hided and ki-yied around like a drunken cow-boy at a greaser fandango, but if there ' is another Republican office holder in the county, past or present who has not been subjected to the same treatment, will he please stand up and be counsel? Mr. Halleck has-been subjected to attacks unworthy of even the man whe penned them and Mr. Halleck owes it to himself and his party to refuse to retire under this fire of vituperation, and his party owe to themselves and to Mr. Halleck to give him a clear field—a unanimous nomination—and a rousing vindication in November. Since the above article was put in type Mr. Halleck has signified his willingness to make the race, which fact I am pleased to record.
