Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 53, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 4 March 1902 — Fire Losses Heavy. [ARTICLE]
Fire Losses Heavy.
State Auditor Hart thinks that, owing to the succession of heavy fire losses this year, which breaks all records, fire insurance companies will be compelled to advance rates all over the country. This year’s losses will reach |235,338,000, on the basis of the losses so far. This would be nearly >75,000,000 more than last year, but then, he neglects to mention, the fire losses were comparatively light. Insurance companies are always looking for a pretext for increasing the burdens of their patrons, but they never think of lessening them.
