An Old Soldier Brutally Assaulted.

John U. Iliff, of Jordan Tp., was before Squire Troxell Saturday afternoon, on the charge of assault aud battery on John F. Mitchell. Mr, Iliff is at present living on Mr. Mitchell’s farm, in Jordan, and Mr. Mitchell is living in Dan Way mire’s house. Friday Mr. Mitchell went to make a settlement with Mr. Iliff and the assault was committed as a result of a disputed point in the settlement. Mr. Mitchell, who is quite an elderly man, probably 65 or more, and an old soldier, was very severely beaten, both eyes being bruised and blackened and the bridge of his nose broken. Iliff plead guilty and was fined $8 and costs, or $16.60 in all, which he paid. He is a'young man, probably under 30.
