Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 48, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 14 February 1902 — For Rural Route No. 3. [ARTICLE]

For Rural Route No. 3.

A movement ie now on foot for still another Free Rural Delivery route, to start from Rensselaer. Its field will all be west of town, but not quite all in Jasper county. It is -proposed to start out on the poor farm gravel road, keeping west on the main traveled road, to the Halstead neighborhood, then mainly north several miles, to the road directly west of Surrey, thence west several miles over into Newton county, and south on the road running about a mile west of Mt. Ayr, until two or three miles south of that town, and then east again into Jasper, taking in the southern part of Newton Tp., and back into Rensselaer on the Bunkum Road. This route will be about 28 miles long, and it is believed it will pass houses enough and have good roads enough to be acceptable to the post office department.
