Coldest Place in the Country Once More.
We have often pointed out that Rensselaer and Jasper oounty generally, often escape the worst extremes of the weather. Yet it sometimes works just the other way. Thus one time about a year ago, we got into what might be called a trough of the cold wave, and had a lower degree of oold than almost any other place in the United States. This same thing oocured last Monday morning, and when the temperature here was almost 14 below zero, the weather bureau’s published reports for that same morning did not give a single place with a temperature lower than that, except inDanada, And earlier in the same night, there was no other temperature reported so low, south of North Dakota. And there was no mistake made in observing the government thermometer here that morning, for the common -thermometers all over town told the same story, and some of them made it even colder.
