New Engines Working Well.
George K. Lowell, General Superintendent of the Monon, states that the road was never making better earnings or being operated more economically. Their battleship freight engines and Chautauqua type passenger engines are doing good work, being on, the road most of the time. The company will next receive four more of the large freight engines, and next month, four new switching engines, which will make the road the best provided with power of any road like mileage in this territory. One of the Chantanqua type of engines on Tuesday hauled the fast express from Indianapolis to Chicago in four hours and ten minutes making the required stops.* The average speed of the train was sixty-two miles an hour.
