Gus Wartena’s Funeral.
Gus Wartena’s funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, at bis own residence in Hammond. Rev. A. W. Wood, of Hammond M. E. church, also a former Rensselaer pastor conducted the religions services. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in Hammond, and people of that place said there never was a larger procession; nor one in which the people seemed more anxious to show respect for the dead and to his surviving/ relatives. The Maccabees and two other orders attended in bodies, and in very large numbers. The floral offerings were profuse and very fine. Gus, by the way, was a manager of electric light systems by regular occupation, and was doing the telephone work in which he met his death, to help out a friend. While himself was waiting to choose between two good offers made for his service by different electric light companies. He was very competent in bis special line, commanded very large wages, and always had the full confidence of his employes. -
