Married Sixty-Five Years.

In our recent account of the 61st wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Clark we stated that they were the longest married couple in Jasper county. In that we were mistaken as we have a couple residing in Jasper county who have passed their 65th wedding anniversary. It is Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery P. Mitchell, of Gillam tp. They have not only been married over 65 years, but they have lived continuously in Gillam tp., over 49 years They are the parents of ten children, sos whom are still living. Their youngest daughter Mrs. Mellissa Porter, wife of Will Porter now of our city, was one of the two victims of that saddouble tragedy near Coats, Kansas, two years, whereby she and her infant daughter were accidentally shot to death. ‘•Uncle Gum” as he is usually called by his neighbors, is a staunch Republican in politics, and has been that party was organized. He is 84 years old and his wife a few years older. They live on their old farm, keeping house by themselves. Mr. Mitchell gees to Medaryville every week to do his trading, and also attends to all the chores on his farm.
