MONDAY. Miss Daisy Nauman spent Sun- k day in Chicago, with friends. James Meeds, of Hammond, was the guest over Sunday of Miss Myra Clark. Mies Tillie Fendig, now a clerk in a Delphi store, is back for a few days’ visit with her parents. ' 1 Mr. and Mrs. B. 8. Fendig havtf gone to Chicago for a few days’ stay. Emmet Gray returned to Lis home at Kankakee ( 111., today, after a few days’ visit with A. Harmon’s family.

Levi Renicker went down to Carroll County Saturday, to buy a farm if he finds a suitable bargain in that line. D. A. Stoner went to Chicago today, to begin his week’s work as an expert poultry judge at the big poultry show at the cblliseum. Mrs. Verlin or “Jack” Morris left Saturday afternoon, for Iznver, Colo., where she expects to re main the balance of the winter, for the benefit of her health

Fred Granger arrived at his home in DeMotte, last Saturday, after a three years service in the Philippines He was in the 4th U. 8. regiment, and had the rank of a corporal. Peter Kessinger and son Walter left today for Wilsonville, Neb., where Mr. Kessinger’s "other son is reading and where they will probably make their future hpme, also. ‘ • Dave Platt got that way again, Saturday night, and Marshal Simpsoji run him in. He promised good and strong never to get that way again, and he was let go, Sunday morning.

The Northwestern Medical college at Chicago has been purchased by the Valparaiso normal school and the Eclectic Medical college, each buying a half interest. The consideration was $40,000. John Hack the well known contractor of Lowell, is now in Colorado, for the benfit of his health. He especially is seeking relief from asthma, and writes back that has experienced great benefit from the mountain air. Jesse E. Wilson arrived back Sunday from his three weeks’ Florida trip. Judge Sellers, of Monticello, who went with him also returned. They had great fishing down there, and Mr. Sellers gave the best of them some points on fly fishing.

J. N. Sample has bought Levi Renicker’s residence property, on the gravel road just north of town. There is a good residence and 5 acres of land in the property and the price was $2,000. Mr. Sample will make the place his residenceOs Ritchey sent his big boss bronze tom turkey to the Chicago poultry show, this morning. Also two of his offspring. The big fellow weighed 45 pounds before the cold weather a while back, but fell off a little then. He is not yet two years old. H. H. Kohlsaat, owner of over 60 per cent, of the stock of the Chicago Record-Herald, announces that he will retire from active work and turn over the editorship and entire business management to Frank B. Noyes, who has been associate editor since last April.

Henry Clement, of Knox, has been held without bail to await the action of the grand jury for the murder of Mrs. Davie, who was his sweetheart before he waa jilted. He will be tried at the next te r m of the Starke county circuit court aud the state will ask for the infliction of the death penalty.

Jr. and Mrs. Samuel Noland, of ner Lee, were Rensselaer visitors Saurday. They are also a recently narried couple, the bride bein' formerlyjMiss Trena Abl egore, flth are well known and much esteemed residents of that locality. Tiey are contemplating a removal, hrwever, but have not decided on tißir future place of residence. / Fred, the 15 year old .son of Commissioner S. A. Dowell, was brown from his pony, Sunday and quite badly hurt His ankle joint Vas dislocated, one of the large bones above the ankle broken, anc his face and bands badly bruised. Dr. I. M. Washburn reduced the fracture and dislocation and gave the other necessary surgical attention. ' .

Arrangements have been made for seating 100 more persons for the Sam Jones lecture. Tickets will be sold as long as this extra seating capacity is not exceeded, but no longer. Therefore anyone wanting to hear the lecture had best secure their tickets at once. These extra chair seats can not be reserved, but as before stated no more tickets will be sold than there are seats.
