Exit Populism.
South Bend Tribune:-Tbe recent death of Gov. Rogers, of the state of Washington takes away the last remaining executive of a commonwealth of the Populist persuasion. As the remainder of the ticket upon which he was elected, including the lieutenant governor, is Republican, the Washington government will now fall into that party’s handsThere is not now an avowed Populist in either the United States senate or the house of representatives, all members of that faith having lost their identity by affiliating with either the Democrats or Republicans- So the new party with its unstable theories is practically a thing of the past. It was born in Kansas and after keeping that state in the background for nearly a deoade, almost bringing actual ruin upon it, the people awoke to their danger and throttled the thing. When Kansas down-1 ed Populism the state began to prosper and has been prospering (or four years. Otßer states of the west affloted with this political disease took the same remedy, that offered by the Republican party, and now Populism’s power is brok- I en everywhere. This is one of the blessings the new year brings to the United States, the effectual downfall of Populism.
