Representative Crumpacker, of Jndiaoa, introduced a bill for the punishment of persons taking part in the lynching of an alien. Those vho conspire in such a lynching are made subject to death or life imprisonment, while meeting to organize such lynching is made a felony. The Federal Courts are given jurisdiction of such offenses, and persons who have participated in lynching are disqualified from serving as jurors. The measure is designed to cover cases similar to the lynching of Italians in Louisiana and Mississippi. So far, if we remember rightly, no measure introduced by Mr. Crumpacker has become a law. This however,' is a etatemanlike and necessary bill and we hope to see it become a law. The Indianapolis Journal remarks Editorially, that “Porto Rico has a legislative body, chosen by the people, to which Governor Hunt has sent a message, in which he shows that the island is tranquil and the people contented, that railroads are being built, that exports have increased; highways aro being constructed and debts paid. The island now has 875 schools, with 934 teachers, and 45,000 pupils. The increasing revenue shows that the island is financially prosperous. The surplus in the treasury is $2,000,000, and increasing.” But the Journal does not say that this public school, highway and railroad developement in Porto Rico, and its overflowing treasury all had their start and foundation head in that much execrated Porto Rico tariff bill of a year or two ago Than which a more generous and beneficial measure could not have been devised. Yet so great was the popular outcry against the bill that a few Republican congressmen who opposed it, thereby achieved sufficient reputation for and “courage of thtir convictions” and a lot other similar clap-trap, to be their stock in trade for the balance of their political lives.

George Myers Still At It
Geo. F. Klytrs. the hustling And always busy Knirnan real estate man has made two good land sales near Wheatfield this week, and a very peculiar circumstance is connected with the purchases. The buyers Are W. S. Walton, of Deselm, 111., who bought the Charles Sohatzley farm of 200 acres two miles north of Wheatfield, paying $35 per acre for the same, and Junes Parks, of Joliet, 111., who bought 200 acres of Horace Marble for s4l per acre. The two' farms adjoin and the purchasers were both former farm neighbors in Will county, 111., but had not until Tuesday of this week, seen each other for 18 years, and their meeting was then purely accidental; both having met Mr. Myers at Wheatfield, to look at land. They will take possession of their purchases within thifnext two weeks.
