Secret Weddings Now Unlawful.

A new law went into effect January Ist which is of especial interest to ministers, justices of the peace and others who are empowered to perform marriage ceremonies. Under the law now in force a return of the marriage license to the county clerk’s office must be made within seven days. There is a penalty attached for the violation of this feature of the law. The purpose of this law is to put an end to what appeared To be a growing evil among young people to get married on the quiet and surprise their friends with the announcement of their wedding several months later.
