DEATH IN A BLAST CHIMNEY.
Ten men were voasted to death and four frightfully injured by a gas explosion at the Soho furnace of Jones & Laughlins, in Pittsburg, Pa. The men belonged to the night gang, and were employed as tillers, their station being on a small platform at the top of one of the big blast furnaces, 85 feet from the ground. They were just about to qqit work, when the accumulation of gas in the furnace exploded, throwing tons of molten metal, slag and cinders over them. Unfortunately the elevator.„had gone down, and there was no escape for the doomed men from the fiery furnace which surrounded them.
