The Souvenir, Lowell’s newest paper, has changed bands. C. Dwyer has sold it to Ernest] E. Woodcock, formerly publisher of the Casey, 111. Republican. The paper will continue its present magazine form. There is a rnmor that the three largest express companies in the United States are about to form a trust aud boost the rates. But Uncle Sam can bead them off by establishing a parcels post department in connection with the postal system. The military company oan not complete its organization until all the members have taken the medical examination. Dr. I. M. Washbum will be at his office every evening from 7 to 8 o’olook to attend to this work, and it is urged upon the members to be examined at once. If a newspaper tramp* on man’s toes it is a dirty sheet in hie estimation, says the Columbia City Post. If it fails to expose some other fellow it is a oowardly sheet in the aforesaid man’s estimation and doesn’t amount to anything. All newspaper men meet with such characters, but pay little attention to them, It isn’t worth while. Newton W. Gilbert, republican lieutenant governor of Indipna, Henry C. Bergboff, democratic mayor of Fort Wayne, and Sol C. Wood, prominent republican leader of Angola, will praotice law at Fort Wayne under the name of Gilbert, Berghoff & Wood. Offices will be opened Jan. 2nd. J. W. Cowden has again “taken a day off” and sold his farm. This last sale is the former Moneghan place, about two miles north, which Jim has only occupied one year. The purchaser is R. B. Porter, the county recorder. It will be copied, as we are informed, by bis son-in-law, Will F. Clark, now of Crystal Falls, Miob. The change of possession is to be on March Ist. Dr. Frank Hemphill, who was raised in this vioinity and is the son of Mrs. Rebecca Hemphill, who lives with ber father, Thoe. Grant, west of town, was married Wednesday, Jan. Ist, 1902, to Miss Etta Harris, of Roann, Ind., at ber parent’s residence. They will reside at Seeley ville, Ind., where the doctor is located in the praotice of his profession, that of a physician. The old year ended here with three marriage lioensea and 1 new divorce case. The new one started in with two lioensea and one new divorce case- Tuesday's divoroe oase was Maggie E. Clifton vs Samuel G. Clifton. AThey live at Gifford. Wednesday’s case was Esther B. Rariden vs Elliott Rarideu. They live in Brookston and the oase is venned here from Montioello. Monday’s Indianapolis News: There was considerable gossip today relative to the make-np of the State committee in the districts. It was said by men from the Tenth district that Thomas McCoy would not be opposed for ohairman. He is the ohoioe of Congressman Crumpacker, who is the boss of the political affairs of the district at thts time. There was talk that Joe Sleeper, of Benton oonnty, wonldbe a candidate, bat it is said he has withdrawn.
