The Supreme Court Judgeship.

The .vacancy on the Indiana Supreme bench that will be created by the appointment of Judge Francis E. Baker to the U. S. circuit court will be filled by someone from the Fifth judicial district, which consists of Lake, Benton, Porter, Laporte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, Starke, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski, Fullon, Wabash, Miami, Cass, Lagrange, Steuben, Dekalb and Noble counties, A number of good men are after the poslfttJßj among whom is Judge Gillett of Hammond, well known and greatly esteemed here. His friends are pushing him vigorously and he will be a formidable candidate, and a mighty good judge if appointed. Another and still better known and higher esteemed candidate here is Hon, U. Z. Wiley, of Benton county, now on the Appellate benoh. It strikes us that Judge Wiley logical man for the appointment; and certainly no man who is talked of has more fully demonstrated his fitness for the position Jasper county people, irrespective of politics will, we are convinced, be a unite in favor of Judge Wiley for the Supreme bench.
