Two Counties Without Saloons.

According to a report just completed in State Statistica Johnson’s office, there was, daDecember 31, 1900, one'saloon for every 573 people in Indiana. The Statistican goes into detail and shows the number of saloons in each county. Brown and Steuben were the only counties without saloons, 'Marion county had 558—one for every 353 people, Lake county, in which are Hammond, Roby, East Chicago and Whiting holds the record with 219 saloons, or one to every 173 people. There were 230 saloons in Allen county, 103 in Delaware, 100 in Floyd, 123 in Laporte, 156 in St. Joseph, 294 in Vanderburg and 150 in Vigo. In Vanderburg county there was one saloon for eVery 244 people. Many smaller counties had proportionately a larger number of saloons than the more populous counties. Jasper county, with a population of over 17,000 has only 14 saloonft, or only about one to every 1,200 population. . ’
