A Fair Oaks Constable This Time.
Constable Fish Gilmore, of Fair Oaks, who has in the past made frequent trips to Rensselaer, as official escort for citizens in the grasp of the law, was given some of that same kind of medicine himself, last Saturday. It seems that last July a Newton county man named Dewey flopped over the line into Jasper county and shot a prairie chicken. A warrant was sworn out in Squire Fay’s court at Parr, and given to Gilmore to serve. He stuck the warrant in his pocket, and has got it there etill. In the meantime “what did Dewey do” but to have a trial in Newton county, and prove that he shot the bird in Jasper. As he was not amenable in Newton for deeds done ih Jasper county, of course he went clear. Fish was arrested by Constable Vick and his trial is took place before Squire Troxell and a jury, and Fish was acquitted.
