CITY NEWS.

MONDAY. Capt. Payne is in Monticello, today, on business. Artie Tuteur went to Peoria today, for a two weeks’ visit. A. D‘. Babcock, of Goodland, was here shis morning on legal business. Mrs. Geo. W. Goff returned home this morning from a two weeks visit at DeMotte and Kersey. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Washburn, of Goodland, visited his parents here Sunday and today. Hill, of Hoopeston, 111., returned home this morning, after a month’s visit with his brother, James Hill, near Kniman. The trial here Saturday afternoon of Constable Fish Gilmore, of Fair Oaks, for not serving a warrant, resulted in his acquittal.

The General Van Rensselaer Chapter, D. A. R., will meet at 2 p -xn. Tuesday, Nov. 26, with Mrs. A. F. Long. Miss Mary Washburn returned to Chicago today, after a short visit here with her parents. Dr. and Mrs. I. B. Washburn. Jacob A. Wright, the young mute, who is now working in the Monon car shops at Michigan City, spent Sunday with relatives here. Jay Middleton, wife and little daughter, of Chicago, came today to visit her father, John Bislosky, Sr. west of town. Mesdames Thos. Thornton, Wm. Childers, Henry Watson, Mary Peyton, Hester Hoyes and Miss Lizzie Comer, went to Lafayette today to attend the district convention of the W. R. C. Rev. J. L. Meads, of Chester, 11l .frother of Rev. Ed Meads, of this place, will hold a ten days’ revival meeting at the Free Will Baptist church, commencing Sunday evening, Dec. Ist. The men who raised the beets for the Central Sugar Company up around Shelby, are having delay and trouble in getting their money, and it is reported that George Cass, treasurer of the company, has got away with the funds. Bert Carter who has been working at the Conkey Printing plant in Hammond, arrived here today on his way to his father’s home near Mt. Ayr. He has recently been quite sick, having been confined to his bed for about two weeks.

The members of Rensselaer Corps No. 39, will be entertained by Mr. Wm, Bedford and cousin, Mrs. Jones, at the Bedford home Thanksgiving evening Nov. 28. 1901. Elizebeth Powers, Corps President. James Bislosky, who after about two years confinement in the insane asylum was released six months ago, on a furlough and is now at the home of his uncle, John Bislosky Sr., in Newton Tp., is showing symptoms of a return of his insanity, and Mr. Bislosky is taking steps to have him returned to the asylum. He is not considered safe to be at large. W. H. Coover was over from Remington Saturday and reports that he is making preparations for removing to Boulder, Colorado, in a short time. He has, after much investigation decided that Boulder combines the health and business advantages he desires in tory degree and has contracted for an interest in a general lumber and building material business there.

Indiana Vital Statistics. Secretary Hurty, of the State Board of Health, yesterday gave out the following statistics for the quarter ending September 30, 1901: The total number of births was 11,000. Of this number there were 5,576 white males and 5,124 females; colored males, 147; females, 162. There were 102 plurality births, 10 males and 105 females. This includes one set of triplets in Clinton county. The total number of marriages for the quarter was 5,906, of which 5,703 were white and 203 colored. For the quarter 8,019 deaths were reported, and this includes 396 atill births. The births exceed the deaths by 2,090. Easy to cure a cold. if you go about it right. Union Young Peoples Entertainment. The various young peoples societies, in the different churches, will give a union*Thanksgiving entertainment, this Tuesday evening at the M. E. church.
