Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 19, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 5 November 1901 — Death of Dr. Wm. Spencer. [ARTICLE]
Death of Dr. Wm. Spencer.
Dr. Wm. Spencer, one of Monticello’s best known citizens, and a man of considerable wealth, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. A. Carson, Saturday, Oot. 26th. He was a member of the 46th Indiana regiment during the civil war and spent 7 months in Libby prison. Some of his domestic and property affairs were settled in our circuit court here, a few years ago. In this connection it has been stated, since he died, that some years ago he deeded all his large property to the daughter Mrs. Carson, above mentioned, thus entirely cutting off his only other child, Mrs. O. D. Meeker. But Mr. and Mrs. Carson, recognizing the injustice of this act, have, since the Doctor’s death, deeded half the estate to Mrs. Meeker.
